Convention Reviews

Review of Conventions we have attended

KublaCon – back and alive – Rich Taylor

1

My story for KublaCon begins the night before, as I’m calmly printing out the character sheets for my Saturday AM game. (Unhallowed Metropolis – Steampunk Survival Horror.) As I printed the last character sheet, around 2 AM (because I’m a night owl), my brain reminded me:

“YOU FORGETFUL JERK!! YOU HAVE A SECOND GAME THIS CON!! YOU’VE DONE NO PREP WORK FOR IT!!”

Dundracon is dun . . . er, done. – Richard Taylor

1

The first big Convention of 2008 is over and done. This is going to be really long, and boy am I actually surprised by that.

I may have mentioned this before, but I always dread going to Dundracon. I don’t know why. But every year, as DDC comes closer, my inner child holds his breath and stomps his feet and then shouts “I DON’T WANNA GO!!!!” and then holds his breath again.

And every year, when I finally get there, inner child has fun and doesn’t even thank me for making him go.

This year was better (much better) than last year, even if I didn’t play as many games as I did the previous year. Then again, over the past year, my standards have changed – I’d rather play a really good four hour game than play in 16 hours of crap games.

Tentacles of the North – Recap

2

At Kublacon 2007, Good Omens Productions held their first ever LARP, Tentacles of the North, a Call of Cthulhu Dark Ages viking tale. One of our players was tasked with creating an epic poem recounting the events that unfolded that even and did she deliver! Here’s a recap of the night, enjoy!

EndGame Mini-Con July – Michael Parker

0

I had a great day yesterday at the EndGame Minicon. I was only in two games, the morning slot and the one I ran that lasted 6 hours.

In the morning slot I was in Brian Isikoff’s Transhuman Space game under the SotC engine. (more…)

Good Omens Con Review – Michael Parker

I had a great time at Good Omens con this last Saturday, and I really think that the whole thing went off rather well. After some last minuet cancellations and pickups (we love you Rich thanks for helping us). Everything ran fairly smoothly the day of.

Man, I really can’t say enough good things about Kubla this year. Part con, part company and part serendipity, I had a blast.

KublaCon! Best Yet! – Michael Parker

1

This last weekend I indulged in going to KublaCon in San Francisco.
Friday
I was planning on leaving around 12:30 on Friday to get to the Convention early (very early) but do to a combination of things (Mostly Stupid Gas stations that don’t accept credit cards) I was just on time to start the check in process and get to my first game. I decided that I wanted to run two games this convention. The first was on Friday at 4:00 – 8:00 (I let everyone out about 15 before that just to get everything together for the 8 o’clock set).

Kubla! – by Rasilind

Well, it seems a good time was had by all! I encountered no drama, things went smoothly, and all the games I played in (and ran) were tons of fun. Sean’s Office Waste game was the superstar in my experience. A big thanks to Sean and everyone who played in that game for making it so hilarious it was painful (My side is still cramping) ;) Rich, you CAT game was fantastic… commie rat bastages! :) Mystery Men went off without a hitch, it got off to a bit of a slow start, and I saw that it was late enough that I really needed it make it more exciting to keep everyone interested and still having a good time, so I kicked it up a notch and that seemed to do the trick. So, Rich, how was the Convention

1

I just got back from Kublacon about four hours ago, and I’m somewhere between hyperactive and dead.

KublaCon is consistently been a good Convention for me – even last year, when their game shuffler program fucked everything up, I still had fun.

This year has been no exception. (more…)

Endgame Mini-con, review – Michael Parker

0

This was my first Endgame con experience, and it was worth it. In short, I had a blast. It was my first game running as a Good Omens Game Master… even if I was not in the program as such, so it was a little exciting for me.

It started out like most of my life, with me running late; BART in concord was running late, and had no train in sight for twenty minuets. But when I finally got to Endgame the fun started right away. I signed up for Catherine Klikoff’s Feng Shui game, unfortunately she had did not show up (I did not find out what happened to her… any one know?). However, I did get to jump into a game of Dog’s in the Vineyard.
