Kubla! – by Rasilind
Well, it seems a good time was had by all! I encountered no drama, things went smoothly, and all the games I played in (and ran) were tons of fun. Sean’s Office Waste game was the superstar in my experience. A big thanks to Sean and everyone who played in that game for making it so hilarious it was painful (My side is still cramping)
Rich, you CAT game was fantastic… commie rat bastages!
Mystery Men went off without a hitch, it got off to a bit of a slow start, and I saw that it was late enough that I really needed it make it more exciting to keep everyone interested and still having a good time, so I kicked it up a notch and that seemed to do the trick.
Thanks to Zac and Jason for making my game especially fun, their roles as the Shoveler and the Blue Rajah (respectively) were fantastic, oscar worthy, really
I received a request to post my condensed die roll resolution rules for Godlike here, but I will have to wait until I go back to work because it’s on my computer there (no, I don’t work on my games at the office, why would you say a thing like that?)
I find that one of the best indicators of a good game is that people continue to talk about them for quite some time after they’ve played in them. Fortunately, people were still talking about it when I left the con last night
I believe my work here is done (cape flapping in the wind).
Finally, for those of you that were wondering (and I know you’re on the edge of your seats with this one), I *did* in fact get into the Firefly LARP last night (barely). That game was also a blast, I was a bad guy
The only thing was that I felt a bit ill informed of my character’s motivations and the overarching plot, and it seemed really short (only about 2.5 hours of actual game play). Despite that, it was still really fun and that in and of itself is saying something for the game.
I think the dealers room left something to be desired this year. It just seemed that there was nothing I really wanted in there. I am seeing a lot more of a female presence at con these days and I really think that the dealer’s room should take that into account (Sean, I think they need baby doll tees, I’ll send out a memo). And on that note, I just wanted to say that I remember a time when I was maybe one of three or four women at con (although I was really a girl when I started attending con, maybe 17?). This makes me happy in several ways.
1. Girl power,
2. Less of a chance of creepy fanboys following me around all con, drooling and chanting “boobies”,
3. Girls that are really into it (some are just there for their boyfriends) seem to be some of the best and most creative gamers I know.
Anywho, I am hoping that by the next con I attend, the Summer of Lovecraft project (shameless plug in 5, 4, 3, 2, … www.summeroflovecraft.com) will be able to make more of a presence, and perhaps even have a dealer’s room spot with swag (Squiddems Baby Doll Tees included for the ladies, sorry guys). I think that’s pretty much it for now… now off to the gym to work off all this junk food
