If one were to ask every member of Good Omens who we are or what it means to them, one would probably get a dozen different answers. So I thought I would share my thoughts on Good Omens as a whole and hope this enlightens some people on who exactly we are, what some of our philosphies are as a group and what direction we are trying to head.

To give a little background on Good Omens…Good Omens is a group of gamemasters formed 5 years ago dedicated to offering variety (and hopefully good quality) RPGs mainly around the SF Bay Area conventions. More then anything, we are just a peer group who try to support each other as game masters (feedback, playtesting, etc) and provide fun games for people.

The past year or so we have been trying to organize more as group and setting goals for ourselves. This includes supporting the gaming community in the SF Bay Area like the smaller conventions (i.e. Endgame‘s minicon and 3DBcon), getting the word out on us, putting up this website and such. All of what we do is on a volunteer basis including the cost of the swag that we provide which comes out of pocket. Why do we do this? I think it’s because have a love for the hobby and enjoy what we are doing thoroughly. Plus many of us hope that such lofty goals will reflect back on gaming in the SF Bay Area and provide a stronger RPG community overall.

Unfortunately, some people do have a bad impression of us as a group of GMs. We are not an elite group of GMs nor do we have the desire to become such. We don’t claim to be better then other GMs. Many (if not all) share a similar philosophy that quality is a matter of perspective. We are a dozen or so GMs with a variety of running styles that probably doesn’t suit the taste of all players. I’m sure one will find players who don’t like our running styles as much as one will find people who do.

The label (‘A Good Omens Production’ or ‘AGOP’) we put on our games is more of a trust flag to other gamers who attend the conventions. Those who know Good Omens know we try to put together a fun game and are not running a game just so we can get into a con for free. Also, it allows an uninformed gamer to feel comfortable in playing something they don’t know. Some gamers are reluctant to try new stuff at cons and we hope that someone seeing the label that has played a Good Omens game in the past (or heard from word of mouth) will trust us enough to give something else a try.

To dispel some of the others myths that people may have also heard:

We are not sponsored by any entity (i.e. a White Wolf demo team).

We don’t hate d20 (and even have run several d20 games at past conventions).

Our membership is open; anyone can join. The only standing rule we have if you want to be GM under the GO label, then you have to do an run a game for us as an ‘audition’ to see if your style meshes with us.
